James 4:3 NKJV
You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.
Prayer is more than just asking God for what you need. It is not just about your personal well-being and material possessions. Prayer is fellowship with God, conversation with God, a means of interceding for the needs of others, devoting yourself to the work of God, a moment of divine empowerment and off course an opportunity to ask for what you need. The Apostle James explains that when prayer has become only a means for self gratification than we ask amiss.
I pray to fellowship with God.
All my prayers are answered.
Please note that God wants to give you whatever you ask for in prayer.
Be aware that there is a difference in asking for what you desire and asking for what you are lusting after.
Do not let the devil confuse you so you do not know whether what you are asking is your lusts or your desires.
After all it is God’s desire to give what is best to His children. However God wants your heart to be genuine toward Him.
Let your prayers be about more than just your personal well-being and material possessions. Pray for the well-being of others, your spiritual growth, the success of the work of God and the spreading of the gospel.
